How did modern artists, designers and architects approach indigenous cultural heritage in the United States? Focusing on case studies that span geographically from the south to the north of the country, these three talks examine the appropriation of the past through materials, techniques and symbols. They raise questions about the ways modern American cultural and artistic identity was built at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
